Scarf Bag - Empatbelas 2025 - Kuala Lumpur

Introducing Stan Oh from Kuala Lumpur!

What's the story behind your artwork?

This artwork reimagines the iconic tigers from the Kuala Lumpur coat of arms, their stripes subtly forming the city's name—"Kuala Lumpur"—to symbolize identity and pride. Positioned against a backdrop featuring a bird's-eye view of the KLCC Twin Towers and the rooftop of the National Mosque, the composition pays homage to the city's architectural and cultural landmarks. Surrounding the scene is a frame inspired by the intricate songket motif found on the roof of the National Library, adding texture and traditional depth. Interwoven throughout are hibiscus flowers—Malaysia's national flower—depicted in various stages of bloom, representing continuous growth, evolution, and the vibrant spirit of the city. This layered composition serves as a visual narrative of Kuala Lumpur's heritage, resilience, and ever-progressing identity.
