Puteri Gunung Banang
This illustration is inspired by the legend of Puteri Gunung Banang, a mystical princess said to live on a mountain in Batu Pahat, Johor. While no one’s really seen her, the story reflects old Malay belief, where the sea meant power, the land meant kings, and the mountain had its own princess. Back in the day, traders sailing through the Melaka Strait would hear tales about the mountain and stop by out of curiosity. It was seen as a magical place, even compared to paradise in old songs. Until today, Gunung Banang still holds that quiet air of mystery and wonder.
